HAECO Americas Event Drives Over $80,000 to Support Disabled Veterans

Greensboro, NC – HAECO Americas helped raise over $80,000, which is $20,000 more than last year for the Purple Heart Homes Piedmont Chapter, an organization dedicated to providing housing solutions and pathways toward an improved quality of life for disabled veterans.

HAECO Americas’ third annual Purple Heart Homes Charity Golf Fundraiser was held on Monday, May 22 in Greensboro. The company, along with local businesses and the community, raised the $80,000 through the tournament, raffle events and other donations. Proceeds will contribute to the work of Purple Heart Homes Piedmont Chapter to help veterans find homes that meet their needs after a lifechanging disability, as well as renovating the current homes of disabled veterans so they can live independently. The fund also enables homeless Purple Heart veterans to stay at The Servant Center and the Arthur Cassell House, two transitional homes in the Piedmont.

“This fundraising event is close to our heart as roughly 40% of HAECO Americas employees are veterans and active military,” said Jim Sokol, president of MRO Services at HAECO Americas. “Every year this tournament grows and exceeds our expectations due to the generosity of our employees, volunteers and sponsors.”

Keith Zimbro, Avionics Lead, HAECO Americas, and a Marine veteran himself, reports the HAECO team brought more than 30 volunteers to work at the transitional homes. The homes enable veterans to receive rehabilitation, job training and placements and other support they need. “The first day we painted and did repairs with the veterans sitting and watching us,” said Mr. Zimbro. “The second day they joined us, helping however they could. It was a great feeling of teamwork.”

HAECO Americas will continue to actively support Purple Heart Homes Piedmont Chapter to bring attention to veterans’ issues in the community.
